Black Satellites beat Nigeria 1-0 in the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship in Benin.
The Satellites scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute through a Precious Boah late free-kick.
Ghana had put in a very good display stopping the attacks of Nigeria and creating spaces behind their defence but the Satellites failed to take their chances.
The win qualified Ghana to the semi-final stage of the competition as Nigeria bow out after drawing their first game against Ivory Coast.
As Nigeria beat Ghana to qualify for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, this is a reversal of the pattern in 2018. With Nigeria dominating play, the Black Satellites had an average first-half. Yet Ghana’s backline did incredibly well in keeping the Eagles from scoring.
Precious Boah was sent off minutes after scoring the goal when he received a second booking for non-sporting conduct.
The Satellites played the remaining minutes with ten men, the did everything to protect the one goal scored.
The victory will qualify Ghana for the next round, while a draw against Ivory Coast in the next game will be enough to secure first place in Group B.
